The placement period. The chapter of your campus life that you dreaded to open. The words that give you and everyone around you nervous and anxiety. The time when you say to yourself – It’s time to grow up.
I have been through this period, and safe to say, passed out pretty well. And yet, I realized, job offer isn’t the biggest takeaway from this experience. There is a lot more to it than just that.
With this new blog series, I want to pen down all my thoughts, experiences and help you sail through your placement phase with confidence and informed choices.
This first post is to make it clear on what to expect from the blogs and what not to. So here it goes –
WHAT TO EXPECT
COLLECTIVE THOUGHTS AND EXPERIENCES
If you have been following the facebook page (which you absolutely should), you would know that I have been tying to make my batchmates write down their experience of the company process in which they are placed. This is because – a) I cannot possibly sit in every company that comes here and each of them have their own unique process experience.
b) Every individual has their own take on placements and how to deal with them. Instead of inflicting only my views on you, I will go through the common consensus, or perhaps present both the sides of an argument and let you decide which way you want to go.
MOTIVATION
It is very important that you always stay positive during this phase and never let rejections affect you. I will try my best to remind you of this time and again!
PROCESS DETAILS
I will cover the processes of as many companies as I can. Be warned though – they can change during your time. Use it only for reference.
TIPS AND TRICKS!
These are again collected from many folks so that you can choose your own way of preparing by reading all this.
WHAT NOT TO EXPECT
COMMENTS/VIEWS ON THE COMPANY
With all this business, extreme caution will be taken to not speak about the company to be visiting. Some companies are very sensitive to comments like these and might result in some conflict between them and our college. Which is not what we want, right?
Whether the company is good for you or not is something you have to research or talk to your seniors.
PREVIOUS YEAR STATISTICS/DATA
I advise you to not think about the package, location, number of selects and when the company arrives in the campus so early on. For the simple reason that all of it might change during your time. It’s better not to keep any expectations before the company is listed by the placement department for you.
Again, another reason being such data is not to be shared publicly.
CONTACT DETAILS OF YOUR SENIORS
I will try and include as many names of selects of a company as possible. But it will only be the names. You can do a quick search on Facebook and PM them if you have any doubts on the company. You can ask for their contact numbers if you have further queries.
Over the few months, I will keep dropping the contents. Best way to catch them is to like the facebook page if you haven’t already!
